ALLU Group Inc., based in East Brunswick, N.J., namned Rob Houlder as its new territory sales manager of the northeastern United States. Based in New York, Houlder will be responsible for developing and working with ALLU’s network of dealers in the Northeast, in addition to field sales activities.

Prior to joining ALLU, Houlder was northeast regional sales manager of Connect Work Tools, a distributor of hydraulic hammers, grapples, pulverizers and compactors, where he was responsible for business development and sales for 11 states and also eastern Canada. His previous experience also includes seven years with Allied Construction Products, a privately owned manufacturer and distributor of hydraulic hammers and other excavator attachments. There, he initially was a regional product support manager and later served as a regional service manager and a district sales representative.

Mining plant equipment manufacturer Allu has launched a rental division within its home market of Finland. The move enables countless Finnish companies to enjoy the benefits of the Allu solutions, which has often led to the purchase of the attachment following highly positive experiences.

Allu Finland Oy, which has been manufacturing Allu products for more than 30 years, expanded its operations in the rental machinery market in its home market of Finland. This has been done in order to provide Finnish customers with the opportunity to rent a Transformer on a short-term basis, thereby benefitting from the unique attributes of the Allu attachments.

Allu has previous experience in the rental equipment business in Germany, where the company has a directly-owned subsidiary. Allu’s new distributor in Hungary is Profi-Bagger, which was founded in 1993 and is part of the Rosenstein Baumaschinenhandel GmbH & Co. KG, Warburg group of companies. The group specialises in the supply of earthmoving and processing equipment, with the Allu range seen as offering perfect operational synergies to its existing expertise and product lines. Company managing director, Krisztián Kozma, says of dealership: “In the course of our continuous development we have sought and seized the opportunity to supply the Hungarian representations of the new machines of smaller, but more famous Western European machine manufacturers, such as the famous Allu brand.”

The Hungarian company has in recent years grown significantly. In 2004, the company moved to a new, modern site in a green field location at the Vendel Industrial Park in Biatorbágy. In 2006, it introduced ISO 9001 quality management and ISO 14001 environmental management systems. Southern African representative
Central Europe is not the only area where Allu has expanded its distributorship network recently. Egelquip (Pty) Ltd is a South African company with a history stretching back to 1983. It now supplies construction equipment throughout southern Africa, and is seen as a premium service provider within the plant and machinery industry. Dredging has resumed on the 96km long Delaware and Raritan Canal, with work expected to run through until the end of October.

The canal functions as a means of transporting water and acts as a reservoir, being part of the Raritan basin water supply system, providing water to millions of central New Jersey residents.

The canal itself is fed by the Delaware River and smaller streams, channels and other runoff sources. Sediment from road and land runoff is deposited in the canal, decreasing its water storage capacity, which periodically requires the sediment to be removed in order to restore the canal’s original capacity.

As part of this ongoing process, a soil improvement system from ALLU is being used to mix the dredged material with Portland cement, which enables the dredged material to be reused.

The main part of the system is the ALLU Processor itself; this is an attachment for a conventional excavator, powered by the excavator’s hydraulic system, thereby converting the excavator into a powerful and versatile mixing tool.

The mixing drums penetrate and mix a variety of material in place, or in-situ, meaning that materials can be mixed anywhere the excavator can go, thus capitalizing on the excavator’s mobility and articulation to reach difficult or soft areas.

In the case of the canal project, the Portland cement is delivered directly to the area of the highest mixing shear by an attached 80mm diameter pipe, injected via a nozzle located between the mixing drums.

The Processor penetrates through any hard crust layers and mixes the dredged material with the Portland cement effectively, with penetration and mixing effectiveness being enhanced by the angled position of the drums which minimizes the ‘dead’ area at the bottom frame.

The dredged material consists of varying mixtures of sands, gravels, silts and clays, which are ideal for reuse in a variety of applications. The added Portland cement helps dry out the material and gives the finer material more strength when used to reclaim a brownfield site.

FINLAND – The Allu Group, manufacturers of multi-purpose attachments for heavy equipment, now offers a dredging solution that reuses the removed material. A U.S.-based minerals company recently began using an ALLU Transformer M 3-20 material processing attachment in its Middleton, Tenn., montmorillonite clay mine. The company purchased the mine-duty M-Series screener-crusher attachment from ALLU to use with its Hitachi 650 excavator in order to crush mined clay down to 4-in-minus and simultaneously load haul trucks.

The ALLU Transformer is allowing the facility to mine land it could not previously mine, as well as process clay from boulders. The ultimate goal is to eliminate the primary crusher in the plant. The processed material is used for production of cat litter and absorbent clay for oils.

According to ALLU territory manager Steve Fowler, “The customer is enjoying the advantages of reduced downtime with their crusher at the plant and lower overall operating costs. They’re able to go back and process material that previously was considered unusable, and also mine areas they had passed over, saving them from having to buy and strip additional land. The ALLU Transformer allows them to crush, screen and load as a one-person operation.”

The ALLU Transformer M-Series attachment is a multi-faceted tool for mining and process industries applications. Powered by the carrier machine (an excavator or wheel loader of up to 154 tons), the hydraulic attachment provides quick and efficient production techniques, solves chute blockages and other material flow problems, and easily assists with the processing and transport of wet/sticky or frozen material.

By sizing material and removing problematic and damaging waste rock at the initial stage of the process, the ALLU M-Series eliminates double handling of material and contributes to an operation’s maximum efficiency.
