ALLU’s Screening Bucket quickly became two for Garnborns Åkeri & Maskin AB. The flexible, high-quality buckets fit perfectly into their various operations and bring benefits in the form of time savings, reduced costs, and environmental gains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Garnborns Åkeri & Maskin AB was founded back in 1964 by Göran Garnborn and is today run by his sons Niklas and Joakim. The company is still based in Ronneby, Blekinge, but much has changed since father Göran started the business with a 1952 Volvo BM 35. Today, the company employs 70 people and operates an impressive fleet of machinery and trucks. Around ten years ago, they added their own recycling facility, and five years ago they developed a new area where they built their own wash hall and warehouse for the business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A business with many legs to stand on<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Today, Garnborns Åkeri & Maskin AB’s operations can be divided into three main areas: haulage, contracting, and recycling<\/strong>. High flexibility has been a conscious goal, clearly reflected in the haulage operation,<\/strong> where a large number of hook-lift trucks are in use. The company currently operates around 30 trucks, serving both internal needs and external customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the contracting side, their machinery fleet consists of approximately 25 machines ranging from 2 to 33 tonnes. Their clients include municipal companies, the Swedish Fortifications Agency, the construction sector, and a certain number of private customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ten years ago, the company established its own recycling facility, which we visit on a mild winter day in mid-November. Here, their trucks deliver excavated materials and other materials generated through their contracting operations. The materials are processed on-site and then reused in their own projects or sold to external customers.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We want to maintain full control over what comes in, and we also sample all incoming material. With today’s regulations, this is necessary even though we only recycle material from our own projects,” <\/em>explains Joakim Garnborn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More on-site recycling motivated the investment in ALLU Buckets<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Despite having their own recycling facility and trucks, Niklas and Joakim Garnborn felt there was still room to improve material flow in their projects. From an efficiency standpoint, it is not optimal to excavate material, transport it away by truck, and then replace it with other material delivered by truck. This led to a desire to reuse and refine more material directly on-site — bringing them into contact with ALLU.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There are several benefits to increasing on-site material recycling. Sometimes job sites are tight, and trucks simply don’t have enough space. If we’re working in residential areas, residents naturally want as little truck traffic as possible. From a purely economic perspective, it’s also most cost-effective to recycle as much material as possible on-site, provided the site conditions allow it. Finally, there’s a clear environmental benefit in reducing unnecessary transport. So it’s not just one advantage — we’re ticking several boxes by working this way,” <\/em>explains Niklas Garnborn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ALLU bucket handles a wide range of materials and fractions<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

At the recycling facility in Kallinge, the company’s ALLU DS 4-17, TS16 (TS32)<\/strong> is currently mounted on a Hitachi ZW 250 wheel loader in the 20-ton class. It is equally well suited for larger excavators, as it is equipped with a combination mounting that includes large BM as well as S70\/S80.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The machine is operated today by Thomas Ottesen, who has over 20 years of experience in recycling and material processing. He shows us around the well-organized facility, where all materials are neatly arranged — whether awaiting processing or transport to customers. Although Thomas has only used the bucket for a short time, he finds it easy to learn and especially appreciates its flexibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We’ve processed compost material containing branches and stumps, excavated material, soil, and crushed asphalt — without me even needing to leave the cab. If necessary, I can adjust the drum configuration or even replace them with different ones. But being able to handle such varied materials without changing anything is impressive,”<\/em> <\/strong>notes Thomas Ottesen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perfect bucket for backfilling<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Garnborns Åkeri & Maskin’s second ALLU bucket is the DL 2-17.<\/strong> It is smaller in size and has two drums — half as many as their DS 4-17. They were looking for a more specialized product, and low weight was a key requirement.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“When we work on water and sewage projects, we encounter the same challenges I mentioned earlier. It’s about cost efficiency, minimizing environmental impact, and the logistics of getting trucks to the site. If we can sort out our own material for backfilling, the savings can be significant. Thanks to the ALLU DL 2-17 being a small and lightweight bucket, we can easily mount it directly on the tiltrotator of our excavators. This allows us to backfill by sorting the excavated material directly on-site,”<\/em> explains Joakim Garnborn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The opportunity for a real demo was decisive<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

After testing a number of different solutions for on-site recycling, Garnborns Åkeri & Maskin AB now feels they have finally found the right one. The ability to test the buckets in real working conditions before purchase made the decision both easier and more accurate. They quickly gained a positive impression of both the products and the sales representative from ALLU Sverige AB, but the opportunity for a proper demo ultimately made the difference.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We had the luxury of testing the buckets both at our own recycling facility, where there’s a wide variety of materials, and out in the field before making an investment decision. After that, both buckets went straight into active projects, and everything has worked exactly as well as we had hoped,”<\/em> concludes Niklas Garnborn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
